ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics Specimen Paper 2026-27
The ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics specimen papers are full-length practice papers written by the Future Topper team on the paper pattern set by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), for students appearing in the ISC board examination. They follow the board's design for the Applied Mathematics paper: the sections, the type of questions, the internal choices and the marks carried by each question.
Applied Mathematics is a new ISC elective, separate from ISC Mathematics, and CISCE has issued a specimen paper for it for the 2027 examination. It keeps the core of calculus, matrices and probability but leaves out vectors and three-dimensional geometry, and adds financial mathematics, index numbers and moving averages and the Poisson and normal distributions, which makes it a natural choice for students of commerce, economics and business.
For Class 12 students, solving the Applied Mathematics specimen papers is one of the most reliable ways to understand the board's expectations before the final exam. On this page you can download both ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics specimen paper PDFs, check the latest paper pattern, see which topics the paper tests and follow a practical plan to use the paper for maximum marks.

ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics Exam Pattern 2026-27
The Applied Mathematics examination has a written theory paper set and marked by CISCE, and an internal assessment component completed in school. Our specimen papers follow the same structure.
Component | Marks | Duration |
Theory (written paper) | 80 | 3 hours |
Project Work (two projects) | 20 | Completed in school |
How the Question Paper Is Structured
The theory paper has 20 compulsory questions in four sections. Section A (20 marks) is one question of twenty 1-mark parts: multiple choice questions, including assertion and reason and two-statement items, and three very short answers. Section B (14 marks) has seven 2-mark questions, Section C (21 marks) has seven 3-mark questions and Section D (25 marks) has five 5-mark questions, several of them built around a real-life situation. Internal choice is offered in three questions in each of Sections B, C and D. The unit weightage is Relations and Functions 6, Algebra 10, Calculus 25, Probability 14, Linear Programming 5, Financial Mathematics 14, and Index Numbers and Moving Averages 6 marks.
Always read the instructions printed at the top of the specimen paper. They state which questions are compulsory, how many questions to attempt from each section and whether any special materials are allowed. We word them to match the board paper.
Topics Covered in the ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics Specimen Paper
Our specimen papers draw questions from across the prescribed Applied Mathematics syllabus. The main areas you should be ready for are:
• Relations and functions: types of relations, one-one and onto functions, composite and inverse functions
• Inverse trigonometric functions: principal values and elementary properties
• Matrices and determinants: operations, adjoint and inverse, area of a triangle, Cramer's rule and the matrix method
• Differentiation: chain rule, implicit and parametric forms, logarithmic differentiation, second derivatives
• Applications of derivatives: rate of change, increasing and decreasing functions, maxima and minima
• Integration: substitution, partial fractions, by parts, definite integrals and their properties
• Calculus in commerce and economics: cost, revenue, profit, break-even, marginal functions, consumer and producer surplus
• Differential equations: variable separable, homogeneous and linear equations of the first order
• Probability: conditional probability, Bayes' theorem, random variables, binomial, Poisson and normal distributions
• Linear programming: formulation and graphical solution with bounded and unbounded regions
• Financial mathematics: perpetuity, sinking fund, EMI by flat and reducing balance methods, rate of return, CAGR, straight line depreciation
• Index numbers and moving averages: price relatives, aggregative and weighted indices, cost of living index, odd and even period moving averages
For the complete unit-wise list with sub-topics, read the ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics Syllabus.
Why You Should Solve the Applied Mathematics Specimen Paper
• Understand the paper design: you see the order of sections, question types and choices before the exam day.
• Learn how marks are distributed: the marks in brackets tell you how long and detailed each answer should be.
• Practise competency-based questions: CISCE papers increasingly test application and reasoning, and our paper carries questions in the same style.
• Build exam-day timing: one full attempt under timed conditions shows where you lose minutes.
• Find weak areas early: questions you cannot answer point directly to the topics you need to revise.
• Understand marking: the answer key supplied with the paper shows how marks are credited for steps, keywords and diagrams.
How to Use the ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics Specimen Paper Effectively
1. Complete at least one full revision of the Applied Mathematics syllabus before your first attempt.
2. Download the first paper and print it, so the attempt feels like the real exam.
3. Sit the paper in one go for 3 hours, plus 15 minutes of reading time, with no notes or phone.
4. Evaluate your answers against the answer key supplied with the paper.
5. List every mistake by type: concept gaps, careless errors, presentation and time management.
6. Revise the weak topics, then attempt the second paper after two to three weeks.
7. Follow up with previous years' question papers and full-length practice papers for wider coverage.
Suggested Time Plan for the Paper
Stage | Suggested time | What to do |
Reading time | 15 minutes | Read every question, mark your choices and plan the order of attempt. |
Short and objective questions | 60 minutes | Answer quickly and accurately; do not overwrite answers. |
Long and choice-based questions | 105 minutes | Attempt your strongest questions first, with full working, diagrams or examples. |
Final review | 15 minutes | Check units, labels, question numbers and any skipped sub-parts. |
This works out to roughly 2.25 minutes per mark. Adjust the split to match the section marks printed on the specimen paper.
Expert Tips to Score High in ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics
• Learn the financial formulas (perpetuity, sinking fund, EMI, CAGR) with their meanings, and use the powers printed in the question exactly as given.
• Write every Bayes' theorem answer by first naming the events and listing the given probabilities, since a mark is attached to that step.
• In normal distribution questions, standardise each value to Z, sketch the curve in the margin and shade the area before reading the table values.
• For an unbounded linear programming region, check the optimum by drawing the half-plane Z < (or >) the value found, and say so in the answer.
• In commerce calculus questions, state the meaning of a marginal value or a surplus in rupees and units as well as the number.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
• Confusing the flat rate and reducing balance methods, or using the annual rate where the monthly rate is needed in an EMI.
• Placing four-yearly moving averages against a year instead of centring them between years first.
• Forgetting the constant of integration when a total cost or revenue function is recovered from a marginal function, or not using the fixed cost to find it.
• Rejecting no roots, or the wrong root, when solving inverse trigonometric equations and maxima and minima problems.
Preparation Plan for ISC 2027 Applied Mathematics
CISCE board examinations are usually held in February and March. A simple plan for the months ahead:
Period | Focus |
Until November | Finish the Applied Mathematics syllabus and make short notes for every unit. |
December | Attempt the first paper under timed conditions and analyse mistakes. |
January | Revise weak areas, attempt the second paper and previous years' papers. |
February | Final revision from notes, formula sheets or key points, with one last timed paper. |

FAQs on ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics Specimen Paper 2026-27
Where can I download the ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics specimen paper 2026-27?
You can download it from the table on this page. Every paper is written by Future Topper and comes with an answer key.
Is the Applied Mathematics specimen paper based on the latest syllabus?
Yes. Both papers follow the syllabus and pattern prescribed for the current ISC examination.
How many marks is the ISC Class 12 Applied Mathematics theory paper?
The theory paper carries 80 marks and is 3 hours long. Internal assessment carries 20 marks. Candidates also get 15 minutes of reading time.
How is ISC Applied Mathematics different from ISC Mathematics?
Applied Mathematics has no vectors or three-dimensional geometry. In their place it gives more weight to applications: financial mathematics (14 marks), index numbers and moving averages (6 marks), and the Poisson and normal distributions within probability. Calculus still carries the most marks, 25 out of 80.
What is the Project Work in ISC Applied Mathematics?
Candidates complete two projects worth 10 marks each, together making up the 20 marks outside the theory paper. Each project is marked for format, content, findings and a viva-voce, by the subject teacher and a Visiting Examiner.
Does the specimen paper include answers?
Yes. Every Future Topper specimen paper comes with a full answer key, so you can mark your own attempt and see where the marks were lost.
Will the board exam have the same questions as the specimen paper?
No. Our papers show the format, question types and difficulty level, not the actual questions. Use it to understand the pattern, then practise widely.
When should I start solving the Applied Mathematics specimen paper?
Attempt it once you have revised the full syllabus, ideally by December. Solving it too early can leave many questions unattempted and give a misleading picture of your preparation.
