The External Examiner's assessment is in two parts:

A. Physical Efficiency Tests — 30 Marks

Six tests to be organised and conducted in the presence of the External Examiner. Tests should be carried out over the duration of two days.

Test 1 — 50 metre run: Standing start. Timings taken to the nearest tenth of a second (weather should be relatively windless without extremes of temperature).

Test 2 — Standing long jump: A flat non-slip surface. Candidates stand with toes just behind the take-off line, make a preliminary swing with arms, then swing forward vigorously springing with both feet simultaneously to land as far forward as possible. Distance measured in centimetres.

Test 3 — Distance run: 1000 metres for boys; 600 metres for girls. Time taken to the nearest second.

Test 4 — Push-ups: (i) Floor push-ups for boys — front-leaning position, body supported on hands and balls of feet, arms straight and at right angle to body. Dips until chest nearly touches floor, then pushes back. Arms must be completely extended with each push-up; body must be held straight throughout. Score = number of correct push-ups. (ii) Push-ups for girls — from a stall bar bench or stool 32 cm high by 50 cm long and 35 cm wide, placed about 15 cm from a wall. Girl grasps outer edges at nearest corners in front-leaning rest position with balls of feet on floor and body and arms forming a right angle. Lowers body until upper chest touches near edge, then raises to straight arm position. Body held straight throughout. If body sways or arches, or subject does not go completely down or up, half credit is given (up to 4 half credits).

Test 5 — Shuttle run: A flat course of 10 metres between two parallel base lines. A semicircle of 50 cm radius marked behind each base line. Two wooden blocks (10 cm x 5 cm x 5 cm) placed in the far semicircle. Candidate runs to far line, picks up one block and places it in starting semicircle. Then runs back to retrieve second block and carries it back across the finish line.

Test 6 — 30-second sit-ups: Candidate lies on back, feet about 30 cm apart, knees flexed at right angles, hands interlocked behind head. Partner holds feet on floor. On signal "Go", candidate sits up to touch knees with elbows, returns to starting position and repeats. Count of sit-ups completed in 30 seconds.

Preparation Tips — Theory (100 Marks)

General:

  • The paper is 2 hours for 100 marks — approximately 1.2 minutes per mark. Plan your time.

  • You must answer questions on any TWO games from Section B — choose your strongest two and prepare them thoroughly.

Section A:

  • Know the difference between growth and development precisely — growth is physical/quantitative; development is functional/qualitative

  • Body types: Endomorph (round, soft), Mesomorph (muscular), Ectomorph (lean, linear) — know the characteristics of each

  • Physical Fitness components: know all ten — cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy

  • Principles of Sports Training: all 13 listed — Individuality, Specificity, Progression, Overload, Adaptation, Recovery, Reversibility, Variance, Frequency, Continuity, Active participation, Periodization, Intensity

  • Sports injuries: know the name of each injury and the specific body part/structure affected — and first aid for each

  • Nutrition: know the seven constituents of a balanced diet — functions AND sources for each

  • Careers: brief knowledge of all six careers listed

Section B — Game-specific:

  • Know the field/court diagram with measurements for each game you choose

  • Know all officials and their specific duties

  • Know scoring rules, substitution rules, and penalty/card systems

  • Know all fundamental skills with their sub-types listed in the syllabus

  • Know all terminology listed — prepare a flashcard for each term

Preparation Tips — Internal Assessment (100 Marks)

Teacher Assessment (50 marks):

  • Attendance carries 5 marks — maintain regular attendance at PE classes

  • Participation in voluntary/intramural activities carries 10 marks — participate actively

  • Representation at Inter-School, District, or State level carries 5 marks

  • Focus on developing fundamental skills in both games/activities chosen

External Examiner — Physical Efficiency Tests (30 marks):

  • Practise all six tests regularly: 50m sprint, Standing long jump, 1000m/600m run, Push-ups, Shuttle run, Sit-ups

  • Know the scoring table — aim for Mark 5 in each test (maximum per test)

  • Tests are conducted over two days — pace yourself

External Examiner — Specialisation Tests (20 marks):

  • Choose the specialisation activity that suits your strengths

  • For Athletics: practise your chosen two events against the performance tables to know your target marks

  • For Yoga: practise all 13 asanas — the External Examiner will nominate any four

  • For Gymnastics: practise four exercises across two apparatus; focus on form, grace and timing

  • For Dancing: practise two complete dance performances with accompaniment — knowledge of steps and rhythm are both assessed
