RRB JE Syllabus
The RRB JE (Junior Engineer) examination 2027 is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards for technical engineering posts in Indian Railways. Junior Engineers are responsible for the technical maintenance, operation, and supervision of railway infrastructure and systems in their respective engineering disciplines. Posts under the JE cadre include Junior Engineer (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, IT, Automobile, Chemical, Environmental, Printing Technology), Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant (CMA), and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS).
The minimum qualification for most JE posts is a Diploma in Engineering (3-year polytechnic diploma) or a Degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) in the relevant discipline. The selection process consists of CBT 1 (preliminary screening) followed by CBT 2 (main examination with discipline-specific questions), Document Verification, and Medical Examination.

Preparation Tips for RRB JE 2027
1. Master Your Core Engineering Discipline for CBT 2
CBT 2 carries 100 out of 150 marks from engineering discipline-specific questions. This is the primary differentiator in JE selection. Study from your Diploma or Degree course material, revise standard textbooks for your discipline, and solve previous years' GATE, ESE, and RRB JE papers in your discipline.
2. Class 12 Physics and Chemistry for CBT 1
The General Science section in CBT 1 (30 marks) is at Class 12 level, not Class 10 as in NTPC or Group D. Revise Class 12 Physics and Chemistry thoroughly from NCERT textbooks, focusing on chapters most relevant to engineering: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Electromagnetic Induction, Thermodynamics, Chemical Bonding, and Electrochemistry.
3. Engineering Drawing for Applicable Posts
For Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical JE posts, Engineering Drawing (15 marks) appears in CBT 2. Revise orthographic projection, sectional views, isometric drawing, and geometric constructions from your diploma or degree course material.
Frequently Asked Questions: RRB JE
Q1. What is the minimum qualification for RRB JE?
The minimum qualification is a 3-year Diploma in Engineering from a recognised polytechnic or state board in the relevant discipline, or a B.E./B.Tech. degree from a recognised university. The discipline must match the post applied for.
Q2. Is the CBT 2 syllabus the same for all JE disciplines?
No. The 100-mark engineering discipline section in CBT 2 is different for each engineering discipline (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.). The remaining 50 marks (Physics/Chemistry, Computer, Environment, Engineering Drawing) have a common or largely common syllabus.
Q3. Is there a practical or interview stage in RRB JE selection?
No. There is no interview or practical examination in the RRB JE selection process. Selection is based entirely on CBT 2 marks (merit list), subject to clearing Document Verification and Medical Examination.
