RRB NTPC General Awareness Syllabus

The General Awareness (GA) section is the highest-weightage subject in the RRB NTPC examination, carrying 40 questions in CBT 1 and 50 questions in CBT 2. It covers a broad spectrum of static general knowledge, current affairs, and Railway-specific awareness. Unlike Mathematics and Reasoning, GA cannot be mastered quickly; it requires consistent daily preparation over several months. However, once prepared, it is the fastest section to attempt since questions require only recall and not calculation.

Preparation Tips for General Awareness

1. Make a Daily Current Affairs Habit Non-Negotiable

Spend 20 to 30 minutes every single day on current affairs starting at least 6 months before the examination. Focus on appointments, awards, sports, government schemes, and science and technology. Use one reliable source consistently rather than multiple sources.

2. Prioritise Indian Railways GK

Given that the RRB NTPC examination is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards, Indian Railways GK carries disproportionately high weightage. Prepare a dedicated 3 to 4 page Railways GK notes sheet covering zones, firsts, types of trains, major projects, and safety systems.

3. Compile a

Static GK Revision Sheet

Compile static GK facts into single-page topic sheets: National Symbols, Classical Dance Forms, Major Rivers and Their States, First in India, etc. Revise these sheets weekly once prepared, rather than re-reading lengthy material.

4. Use Mnemonics for Memorisation

For topics requiring memorisation of lists (railway zones, dance forms, fundamental rights articles), develop acronym-based mnemonics. These significantly reduce revision time and improve retention under examination pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions: General Awareness

Q1. How many questions on current affairs appear in NTPC GA?

Approximately 10 to 15 questions in CBT 1 (out of 40) and 12 to 18 questions in CBT 2 (out of 50) are based on current affairs. The proportion varies across exam cycles.

Q2. Is General Science a separate section or part of GA?

In the official RRB NTPC pattern, General Science questions appear within the General Awareness section, not as a separate section. However, for preparation purposes, it is covered in detail on the separate General Science Syllabus page.

Q3. Which months of current affairs should I focus on?

Focus on the 12 to 18 months immediately preceding the examination. Give extra attention to the last 6 months, as these events are more likely to be featured in the examination.
