RRB RPF SI General Intelligence & Reasoning Syllabus
The General Intelligence and Reasoning section of the RRB RPF SI CBT 2027 carries 35 questions and 35 marks. It is set at graduation level difficulty -- higher complexity than the RPF Constable paper -- with more complex puzzles, multi-variable seating arrangements, critical reasoning, decision making, and inference-based questions. The SI Reasoning section reflects the supervisory and analytical nature of the Sub-Inspector role within the Railway Protection Force.

• Coding and Decoding: letter shift coding; number substitution coding; symbol coding; conditional coding; reverse coding
• Blood Relations: direct relations; coded relations; generation tree problems; mixed blood relation puzzles
• Directions and Distances: eight compass directions; total distance; shortest (straight-line) distance; shadow-based direction; pivot and turn problems
• Syllogism: All, Some, No statements; categorical syllogism; complementary pair; possibility-based conclusions (Some X may be Y); Venn diagram method for verification
• Mathematical Operations: BODMAS after symbol replacement; balancing equations by substituting symbols
• Venn Diagrams: selecting correct Venn diagram for three related sets; solving questions from given diagram regions (elements in intersection, union, only A, etc.)
• Statement and Conclusion: conclusions that definitely follow from statements; invalid conclusions
• Statement and Assumptions: implicit assumptions underlying a given statement; valid assumption criteria
• Statement and Courses of Action: practical and problem-addressing actions; criteria for a valid course of action
• Cause and Effect: identifying cause-effect pairs; independent causes; common cause; effect statements
• Seating Arrangement: linear (single row, double row facing each other); circular (facing centre, facing away); rectangular/square; with multiple conditions
• Puzzles: floor-based; box-based; scheduling; age-based; designation puzzles
• Classification: odd one out; grouping items by common category; number-based classification
• Data Sufficiency: two-statement problems; single statement adequacy; combined adequacy
• Non-Verbal Reasoning: figure series (next figure); matrix completion (3x3, 2x2); mirror image (figures, letters, clock); water image; paper folding and cutting; embedded figures; figure counting (triangles, squares, rectangles)
• Input-Output: multi-step machine rearrangement of words and numbers; identifying a specific step
SI-Specific Additional Topics
The following topics appear in the SI paper but not in the Constable paper (or appear at significantly higher complexity):
• Critical Reasoning: strengthening and weakening arguments; evaluating evidence; identifying assumptions in legal scenarios
• Logical Deductions: multi-premise syllogisms with four or more statements
• Decision Making: professional scenario-based judgment relevant to supervisory police roles; weighing evidence
• Advanced Puzzles: multi-parameter puzzles combining seating, floors, designations, and hobbies
• Inference: factual and judgmental inferences from passages; distinguishing between facts, inferences, and judgments
Non-Verbal Reasoning (SI Level)
• Complex Figure Series: sequences involving multiple simultaneous changes across shape, size, number of elements, rotation, and shading
• Advanced Matrix Completion: 3x3 matrices with multi-element figures and multiple simultaneous rules
• 3D Figure Rotation: identifying a 3D figure after rotation by given angles
• Hidden Figures in Complex Drawings: identifying multiple hidden figures within a single complex figure

Preparation Tips
1. Prepare from Banking and SSC CGL Level Material
The SI Reasoning difficulty is comparable to SBI PO Preliminary and SSC CGL Tier 1. Use question banks from these examinations, particularly for complex puzzles, critical reasoning, and advanced syllogism.
2. Decision Making Requires Scenario Practice
Decision Making questions present professional scenarios relevant to a supervisory security role. Practise reading scenarios quickly, identifying the key issue, and selecting the most legally sound and practically effective action.
3. Critical Reasoning Needs Separate Practice
Strengthen and weaken questions, inference identification, and argument evaluation are skills not naturally developed through standard reasoning practice. Practise these from GMAT and CAT critical reasoning question banks for exposure to a variety of argument types.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What distinguishes SI Reasoning from Constable Reasoning?
The SI paper includes Critical Reasoning, Decision Making, Inference, and multi-parameter complex puzzles that do not appear at the Constable level. The core topics (Series, Analogies, Coding, Syllogism) are common to both but are harder in the SI paper.
Q2. Is there an interview after the Reasoning CBT for RPF SI?
No. There is no interview in the RPF SI selection process. Selection is based entirely on CBT score (after qualifying PET, PMT, DV, and Medical).
