SSC JHT Syllabus
SSC JHT recruits Junior Hindi Translators, Junior Translators and Senior Hindi Translators. Paper 1 is an objective test of Hindi and English grammar at graduate level. Paper 2 is descriptive and tests translation in both directions plus an essay in each language.
Paper 2 is where the ranking happens. Practise translating government circulars and press releases, because that is the register the paper uses.

SSC JHT subject-wise syllabus
General Hindi
Grammar (sandhi, samas, upsarg, pratyay, ling, vachan, karak), vilom shabd, paryayvachi shabd, muhavare and lokoktiyan, vakya shuddhi, shabd shuddhi, anekarthi shabd and comprehension of a Hindi passage.
General English
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, correct usage of words, error spotting, fill in the blanks, idioms and phrases and comprehension.
Paper 2: translation and essay
Two passages for translation, one from Hindi to English and one from English to Hindi, to test your grasp of both languages and your ability to produce accurate, natural text. One essay in Hindi and one in English on topics of general interest.

Is SSC JHT Paper 2 objective or descriptive?
Descriptive. You write translations and essays.
What is the negative marking in SSC JHT Paper 1?
0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer.
Do both JHT papers count in the final merit?
Yes. The merit list uses the combined marks of Paper 1 and Paper 2.
