SSC JE Syllabus

SSC JE has two papers. Paper 1 mixes general subjects with your engineering branch. Paper 2 tests only the branch you chose, in more depth, for 300 marks.

Half of Paper 1 is engineering, so a diploma-level grip on your core subjects matters more than general awareness. Candidates choose one of three streams: Civil (Part A), Electrical (Part B) or Mechanical (Part C).

SSC JE subject-wise syllabus

General Intelligence and Reasoning

Analogies, similarities and differences, space visualisation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series and non-verbal series.

General Awareness

Current events, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity and scientific research, with an eye on matters of everyday observation.

Civil and Structural Engineering (Part A)

Building materials, estimating, costing and valuation, surveying, soil mechanics, hydraulics, irrigation engineering, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, theory of structures, concrete technology, RCC design and steel design.

Electrical Engineering (Part B)

Basic concepts, circuit law, magnetic circuit, AC fundamentals, measurement and measuring instruments, electrical machines, fractional kilowatt motors, synchronous machines, generation, transmission and distribution, estimation and costing, utilisation of electrical energy and basic electronics.

Mechanical Engineering (Part C)

Theory of machines and machine design, engineering mechanics and strength of materials, properties of pure substances, first and second laws of thermodynamics, air standard cycles for IC engines, IC engine performance and combustion, Rankine cycle, boilers, air compressors, refrigeration cycles, fluid properties, fluid statics, fluid kinematics and dynamics, hydraulic turbines and centrifugal pumps and production engineering.
