SSC CHSL Syllabus
SSC CHSL recruits Lower Division Clerks, Junior Secretariat Assistants and Data Entry Operators through a 10+2 level exam. The syllabus has four subjects in Tier 1 and five modules in Tier 2, followed by a typing test or a data entry test depending on the post.
Tier 1 is qualifying. The final merit is drawn from Tier 2 Session I. The typing test and DEST in Session II are pass or fail.

SSC CHSL subject-wise syllabus
General Intelligence
Semantic, symbolic and figural analogy, classification and series, number series, space orientation, Venn diagrams, drawing inferences, punched hole and pattern folding, embedded figures, critical thinking, emotional and social intelligence, coding and decoding, numerical operations and blood relations.
General Awareness
Current affairs, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity including the Constitution, scientific research and everyday science.
Quantitative Aptitude
Number systems, percentage, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, time and distance, time and work, basic algebra, elementary geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and data interpretation using histograms, bar charts and pie charts.
English Language
Spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, spellings, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, sentence improvement, voice, narration, shuffling of sentences, cloze passage and comprehension passage.
Computer Knowledge
Computer basics, software, working with the internet and email, networking and cyber security.
Typing test and DEST
DEOs need 8,000 key depressions per hour on a computer. LDC and JSA candidates need 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi.
FAQs on the SSC CHSL Syllabus
Is the SSC CHSL computer module counted for merit?
No. It is qualifying, but you must clear it for your Tier 2 score to count.
What level is the SSC CHSL syllabus?
The questions are set at 10+2 level, although maths in Tier 2 goes a little deeper than Tier 1.
Can I take the CHSL typing test in Hindi?
Yes. You choose English or Hindi when you apply, and the speed requirement differs for each.
