SSC Delhi Police Constable Numerical Ability Syllabus
Fifteen questions. Fifteen marks. The smallest maths section in any SSC recruitment.
That number is the single most useful fact on this page, because most candidates arriving from CGL or CHSL preparation give maths a third of their hours. Here it is worth fifteen per cent of the paper, and the general knowledge section is worth more than three times as much.

Syllabus, topic wise
Number system
Whole numbers, decimals and fractions, relationships between numbers, HCF and LCM.
Percentage
Percentage change, increase and decrease, along with applications in other topics.
Ratio and proportion
Simple and compound ratio, division in a given ratio, plus proportion.
Average
Simple averages, weighted averages and average change problems.
Profit and loss
Cost price, selling price, profit and loss percentage, plus discount.
Interest
Simple and compound interest.
Time and work
Work done by individuals and groups.
Time and distance
Speed, distance and time, along with relative speed.
Mensuration
Area, perimeter, volume and surface area of basic figures.
Data interpretation
Simple tables, bar charts and pie charts.
What is not asked
No trigonometry. No coordinate geometry. No algebra beyond basic manipulation. No statistics or probability. No multi chart data interpretation of the kind the graduate papers use.
If you are preparing from CGL material, most of what you are studying will not appear here.
How much time to give it
Fifteen questions is the smallest section in the paper and the slowest per question. A sensible budget is around fifteen to twenty of the ninety minutes.
The bigger decision is preparation time rather than exam time. Four or five topics, percentage, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, average and time and work, cover most of what gets asked. Build those, add basic mensuration and stop.
The hours saved belong in General Knowledge, which is worth fifty marks against this section’s fifteen.
How to prepare
Learn the standard formulae and then practise arithmetic speed rather than technique. At this level there are no clever methods to learn, only faster calculation.
Squares to twenty-five, tables to twenty and fraction to percentage conversions do more for a ninety minute paper than anything else.
Answer anything you can narrow to two options. At 0.25 per error, the guess is worth taking.
