Non-verbal reasoning carries more weight here
At matriculation level the Commission leans harder on figural questions than it does in the graduate papers. Series, classification, mirror images, paper folding and embedded figures all appear regularly.
That works in a prepared candidate’s favour, because non-verbal question types are finite and improve quickly with practice. Candidates who skip them because they look unfamiliar are giving away the easiest marks in the section.
How to prepare
Work through the nine topic areas one at a time until each is automatic, then move to mixed practice. Previous years’ papers are the real syllabus, since the Commission publishes headings rather than question forms.
Sketch non-verbal questions rather than solving them mentally. Drawing the transformation is faster than visualising it and far more reliable under time pressure.
Answer anything you can narrow to two options. At 0.25 per error, that guess is strongly in your favour.
