SSC GD Constable General Knowledge & General Awareness Syllabus
Forty marks that take no calculation time at all. In a paper where eighty questions have to fit into sixty minutes, a section you can answer in twenty seconds a question is worth more than its share of the marks suggests.
The cost is that it has to be built months in advance. This is the one section of the SSC GD paper that cannot be improved on the day.

SSC GD General Knowledge syllabus, topic wise
History
Ancient, medieval and modern India. The freedom struggle, major dynasties, important movements and well known dates and figures.
Geography
Indian and world physical geography, rivers, mountains, states and capitals, climate, soils, agriculture and national parks.
Indian polity and the Constitution
The Constitution, fundamental rights and duties, Parliament, the President and Prime Minister, states and the judiciary, at an introductory level.
Economic scene
Basic economic concepts, banking, budget, taxation and current government schemes.
General science
Physics, chemistry and biology at school standard, along with everyday applications, the human body, nutrition and common diseases.
Sports
Major tournaments, recent winners, sporting terms and venues. Sports appears first in the Commission’s own list for this exam, which is a reasonable signal about its weight.
Culture and static general knowledge
Art and culture, dances, festivals, monuments, books and authors, important days, national symbols and organisations with their headquarters.
Current events
Usually the eight to twelve months before the exam. Schemes, appointments, awards, defence and paramilitary news, sports events and science developments.
What the Commission says about the level
Questions test awareness of the environment around the candidate and its application to society. They are set for a candidate who has not made a special study of any discipline.
In practice that means recognition rather than precise recall. You are more likely to be asked which state a festival belongs to than the year a scheme was launched. Preparation that chases exact dates and figures is preparing for the wrong exam.
How to prepare
Read a daily newspaper from the start. Six months of consistent reading covers current affairs comfortably and there is no shortcut that works.
Give the forces themselves some attention. Questions about the Central Armed Police Forces, defence exercises and paramilitary appointments appear more often in this paper than in the general SSC exams, and almost nobody prepares for them deliberately.
Revise weekly. This is the section where month one leaks away by month six without a review slot.
Answer anything you can narrow down. At 0.25 per error the guess is worth taking, which is a different rule from the one that applies in MTS Session 2 or CGL Tier 2.
