CBSE Class 10 Science Notes
Science is one of the most important subjects in the CBSE Class 10 board exam, and also one of the most rewarding to prepare for. Unlike subjects where success depends on memorising large volumes of text, Science rewards students who genuinely understand concepts and can apply them to answer questions clearly and accurately. These CBSE Class 10 Science notes are built around that principle.
Written following the latest NCERT syllabus and CBSE board exam pattern, these notes cover all chapters of Class 10 Science across Chemistry, Biology, and Physics in a structured, exam-focused format. Every chapter note is designed to help you understand the concept, remember the key facts, and write the kind of answers that earn full marks in a board exam.
Science in Class 10: What You Are Actually Preparing For
Class 10 Science is a single subject in the board exam, but it draws from three completely different disciplines. Chemistry chapters test your knowledge of reactions, equations, and chemical behaviour. Biology chapters test your understanding of life processes, reproduction, genetics, and ecosystems. Physics chapters test your ability to apply laws, formulas, and numerical methods to solve problems involving light, electricity, and magnetic effects.
This means your preparation cannot be one-dimensional. A student who is strong in Chemistry but weak in Physics, or strong in Biology but unprepared for Chemistry equations, will leave marks on the table that better-prepared students will pick up. These notes are structured to give you equal, thorough coverage across all three sections so that no part of the paper catches you off guard.
What Every Chapter Note Includes
Each chapter note across Chemistry, Biology, and Physics follows the same structured format so you always know where to look for what you need.
Concept explanations in plain language. Every concept, process, and principle is explained clearly and simply, the way a teacher explains it in class rather than the way a textbook writes it. You will understand the reasoning behind each concept, not just what to write.
Balanced chemical equations in formatted reaction blocks. For Chemistry chapters, every important equation is presented in a clearly formatted block with the reaction type identified, the key observation noted, and any conditions (heat, catalyst, sunlight) clearly indicated. You will never have to guess whether an equation is balanced or what type of reaction it represents.
Key definitions worded for board exam answers. CBSE awards marks for precise definitions. Vague or incomplete definitions lose marks even when the student clearly understands the concept. Every definition in these notes is worded exactly as expected in a board exam answer.
Comparison tables for frequently confused concepts. Some of the most common sources of lost marks in Science are questions that ask you to distinguish between two similar concepts — acids and bases, corrosion and rancidity, soaps and detergents, series and parallel circuits, autotrophs and heterotrophs. These notes include dedicated comparison tables for all such pairs so you can learn the distinctions clearly and reproduce them in an exam.
Callout boxes for exam-critical facts. Throughout every chapter, the most frequently tested facts, common mistakes, and important exceptions are highlighted in callout boxes so they stand out during revision and are easy to locate when you need them.
Board exam practice questions by mark category. Every chapter ends with practice questions organised as 1 mark, 3 marks, and 5 marks, following the exact CBSE board exam pattern. These questions are based on actual board exam trends so you are practising what is most likely to appear in your paper.

These chapters appear every year with significant mark allocation. If your exam is approaching and time is limited, ensure these chapters are thoroughly covered before moving to others.
Section-wise Overview
Chemistry
Chemistry is the section most students find challenging because it requires both conceptual understanding and accurate recall of chemical equations. The good news is that once you know the reactions and understand the logic behind them, Chemistry becomes one of the most predictable sections of the paper.
Chapter 1 establishes the foundation by teaching you how chemical reactions are represented as equations, how to balance them, and how to classify reactions into five types. Everything that follows in Chemistry builds on this foundation. Chapter 2 goes deep into the behaviour of acids, bases, and salts, covering pH, indicators, neutralisation, and the chemistry of important salts like baking soda, washing soda, and bleaching powder. Chapter 3 covers the physical and chemical properties of metals and non-metals, the reactivity series, ionic bonding, metallurgy, and corrosion. Chapter 4 is the largest Chemistry chapter, covering organic chemistry from covalent bonding and allotropes of carbon all the way through to ethanol, ethanoic acid, soaps, and detergents. Chapter 5 covers the periodic table, Dobereiner's triads, Newlands' law, Mendeleev's periodic table, and the modern periodic table.
Biology
Biology in Class 10 covers the essential processes of life at both the organism and ecosystem level. Unlike Chemistry, Biology chapters are more descriptive and reward students who can write clear, complete answers using precise scientific language.
Chapter 6 (Life Processes) is the most important Biology chapter and covers nutrition, respiration, transportation, and excretion in plants and animals with detailed process explanations. Chapter 7 covers the nervous system, hormones, and coordination in plants and animals. Chapter 8 covers asexual and sexual reproduction in plants, animals, and humans including the human reproductive system. Chapter 9 covers heredity and variation, Mendel's laws, sex determination, and the theory of evolution including Darwin's theory and speciation. Chapters 14 and 15 cover environmental concepts including food chains, ecosystems, waste management, and natural resource conservation.
Physics
Physics in Class 10 is the most formula-driven section and the one where numerical problem-solving is most important. Students who understand the concepts and practise a variety of numerical problems consistently score well in this section.
Chapter 10 covers reflection and refraction of light including mirror and lens formulas, magnification, and the power of lenses. This is one of the most formula-heavy chapters in the entire Science syllabus and requires thorough practice with numericals. Chapter 11 covers the human eye, defects of vision, atmospheric refraction, and dispersion of light. Chapter 12 (Electricity) is the highest-weightage Physics chapter and covers Ohm's law, resistance, series and parallel circuits, electrical power, and Joule's law of heating.
Chapter 13 covers magnetic fields, electromagnetic induction, Fleming's rules, electric motors, and generators.
How to Use These Notes
Read your NCERT chapter first. These notes are designed to complement NCERT, not replace it. CBSE board questions are set from NCERT, so reading the textbook remains essential. Open these notes after going through the NCERT chapter to reinforce, organise, and consolidate what you have read.
Pay special attention to the equation blocks in Chemistry. For Chemistry chapters, the formatted reaction blocks are the most revision-critical part of the notes. Go through every equation, understand what type of reaction it is, and note the key observation. Being able to write a correctly balanced equation with the right conditions and state symbols is worth significant marks in the Chemistry section.
Use the comparison tables actively. Do not just read the comparison tables passively. Cover one column, try to fill it in from memory, then check. Repeat with the other column. This active recall method is far more effective than reading through a table and assuming you know it.
Attempt the practice questions without looking at the notes. The practice questions at the end of every chapter are your exam simulation. Sit down with paper, close the notes, and attempt the questions as if it is a real board exam. For 3-mark and 5-mark questions, write complete answers, not bullet points. Then compare your answers with what the notes contain and identify the gaps.
For Biology chapters, practise writing complete process answers. Biology examiners look for complete, well-structured answers that cover all stages of a process in sequence. When you encounter process-based content in the Biology notes such as how food is digested or how the nervous system responds to a stimulus, practise writing it out as a complete answer, not just reading through it.
For Physics chapters, practise every numerical type. The Physics notes include worked numerical examples for every formula. After reading through a worked example, close the notes and redo it from scratch on paper. Then move to the practice questions and attempt every numerical. Exam numericals follow recognisable patterns, and repeated practice is the only way to become confident with them.
